Lions Show Consistency at Misericordia’s Cougar Classic
Ashton Owens led the men with a 6:30 mile pace (32:31), while Lilley Anderson paced the women in 27:49 for 7:30 mile splits.
Penn State Schuylkill cross country continued to build momentum at the 19th Annual Cougar Classic hosted by Misericordia University on Saturday. Competing against a deep field on a challenging course, both the men's and women's squads turned in steady performances and valuable mid-season experience.
Women's 6K
First-year standout Lilley Anderson set the tone for the women's team, covering the 6K course in 27:49 for a 7:30 per-mile pace. She was followed by Addie Zimmerman (32:23), Abby Purcell (34:01), and Hanna Bulles (43:13), each gaining key race experience as the season ramps toward PSUAC competition.
Men's 8K
On the men's side, Ashton Owens again led the pack with a 32:31 finish at a 6:30 pace, showing consistency from the season opener. Matthew O. followed closely at a 6:45 pace, with Francisco Ortiz crossing in 37:09, Ron Kanyangarara. in 41:19, and Shane Smith grinding out the tough course with a 10:30 pace.
The Lions will use the Cougar Classic effort as a springboard into the heart of their fall schedule, continuing to develop team depth and competitive sharpness ahead of their next meet.
