Chambers Wins High Jump as Lions Open Outdoor Season at Stockton
Tyrone Chambers captured the high jump title (1.96m) while Hannah Leininger placed 3rd in the javelin (38.75m) in her collegiate debut as Penn State Schuylkill opened the outdoor track & field season at the Stockton Invite.
The Penn State Schuylkill track and field teams kicked off their outdoor campaign this weekend at the Stockton Invitational in Galloway, NJ, competing against a large field of athletes in the Lions' first meet of the season.
Highlighting the weekend was Tyrone Chambers, who delivered an outstanding performance by winning the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.96 meters. Chambers also had a strong showing in the horizontal jumps, recording a personal-best 6.10m in the long jump and finishing 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.78m, showcasing his versatility across multiple events.
On the women's side, Hannah Leininger impressed in her first collegiate meet, earning a 3rd-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 38.75m to lead the Lions' throwers. She also competed in the shot put, gaining additional experience in her collegiate debut.
Several Lions contributed solid performances across the track events as well. Andrew Mieles led the Lions in the sprint events with times of 12.47 in the 100m and 25.10 in the 200m, while teammates Francisco Ortiz, Mario Ortiz, and Ronald Kanyangarara also competed in the 200m.
In distance competition, Lilley Anderson paced the Lions in the women's races with a 5:48.09 finish in the 1500m and 12:24.51 in the 3000m. Teammates Hanna Bulles, Ava Eastman, and Abigail Smithnosky also competed in the distance events for Schuylkill.
The Lions' throwers saw multiple athletes compete in the discus, javelin, and shot put, including Megan Hauser, Lainey Dusel, and Katelyn Otto, who each competed in multiple throwing events throughout the meet.
The Lions also competed in relay action, with the men's 4x400m relay team of Ashton Owens, Mario Ortiz, Francisco Ortiz, and Lee Newton finishing in 3:45.39, while the women's 4x100m relay team posted a time of 1:04.08.
The Stockton Invitational provided a strong start to the outdoor season for Penn State Schuylkill, highlighted by Chambers' event victory and Leininger's podium finish as the Lions continue to build momentum heading into the next competition.
