Johnson Leads the Way as Lions Battle Unbeaten York
Schuylkill keeps competing against conference frontrunner, turns focus to Saturday’s road test.
Penn State Schuylkill hosted PSUAC powerhouse Penn State York on Wednesday night, falling 87–31 against the conference's lone unbeaten team.
The Lions faced a sharp-shooting York squad that came out firing early, building momentum behind Delaney Burroughs' game-high 36 points, including seven three-pointers. York knocked down 18 shots from beyond the arc as a team and used balanced scoring and ball movement to steadily extend its lead throughout the contest.
Despite the score, Schuylkill continued to battle on both ends of the floor. Mikayla Johnson led the Lions with 18 points, connecting on four three-pointers while playing all 40 minutes. Katelyn Otto made her presence felt on the glass with a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with seven points, while Madison Cooper added eight rebounds and Tayla Jones chipped in defensively with two assists.
The Lions showed resilience on the boards, pulling down 33 rebounds as a team, but struggled to find consistent rhythm offensively against York's pressure defense.
Penn State Schuylkill will look to regroup and get back to work as they head to Penn State Scranton on Saturday for a PSUAC matchup scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
