Otto scores 10 as Lions show third-quarter spark at King’s
A strong third-quarter surge highlighted Schuylkill’s competitive fight on the road.
Penn State Schuylkill women's basketball dropped an 82–37 road decision at King's College on Wednesday night in non-conference play at Scandlon Gym in Wilkes-Barre.
King's used pressure and pace to seize control early, turning Schuylkill miscues into transition opportunities on the way to a 27–7 lead after the first quarter and a 49–15 advantage at the half. The Monarchs finished with 36 made field goals and 8 three-pointers behind a balanced attack led by Cadie Lewis (17 points), Gianna Dickson (13 points, 5 steals), and Lauren Casey (12 points, 9 rebounds).
The Lions responded out of the locker room with their best stretch of the night, winning the third quarter 18–15 while shooting 53.3% from the floor (8-for-15) and continuing to attack the paint. Katelyn Otto paced Schuylkill with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, doing her damage around the rim. Serena Jones added 8 points, 5 rebounds, and a team-high 3 assists, while fellow starter Ava Novak chipped in 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Off the bench, Megan Hauser provided an efficient spark with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist in 14 minutes, and Madison Cooper added 4 points and 3 boards. Overall, Penn State Schuylkill scored 30 points in the paint and collected 31 rebounds, but 27 turnovers and King's 19 second-chance points proved too much to overcome.
Penn State Schuylkill will look to build on its third-quarter surge and interior scoring as they head to Penn State New Kensington on Friday for a PSUAC matchup.
