HAZLETON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball never trailed as they cruised to a 65-35 victory over PSUAC conference opponent Penn State Hazleton.
With both teams going back and forth the entire first period, Schuylkill would go on a 7-0 run following a Hazleton layup in the opening minutes of the second period. After a nearly four-minute scoring drought, Hazleton would convert on a made layup with 3:55 remaining in the period. Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) would answer immediately on a 3-point make, giving Schuylkill a 23-12 advantage. Schuylkill would finish the period on a 10-3 run which was capped off by a made jump shot from Desiree Ellison (Atlanta, GA / Rockdale County High School) in the final seconds of the second.
Schuylkill continued to dictate the pace in the third quarter, outscoring Hazleton 14 to 8. Schuylkill's defense did a great job of limiting Hazleton offensively, holding Hazleton to just 2-10 from the field for the period. Schuylkill also did a great job of sharing the ball in third, with 5 out of 7 made baskets coming off assists.
With the score 47-23 entering the fourth, Schuylkill would go on a 10-0 run started by a Sherly Valentin (Bronx, NY / Renaissance High School) made jump shot. Hazleton would stop the bleeding with a pair of made free throws with 5:00 minutes remaining. Crockett and Tajae Stevenson (Patterson, NJ / International High School) would convert on 3-point attempts in back-to-back possessions late in the quarter to secure the win for Schuylkill. With the win, Schuylkill improves to (8-4) overall, (5-1) in PSUAC play.
Stevenson led Schuylkill with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Crockett finished with 12 points and 3 steals. All 12 of Crockett's points came from behind the 3-point line. Ellison added 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) gave valuable minutes off the bench, scoring 8 points and 4 rebounds in 8 minutes.
