Softball Split Nonconference Doubleheader with Gwynedd Mercy

Penn State Schuylkill battled through a pair of high-scoring games at Blue Mountain High School, falling in the opener before rallying to secure a 9–8 victory in Game 2.

Game 1 — Gwynedd Mercy 11, Penn State Schuylkill 8

The Lions jumped out early in the first inning when Aryanna Bodge launched a two-run home run, scoring Emily Brent to quickly tie the game at 2–2.

Gwynedd Mercy answered with three runs in the second and later broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning to take control.

Schuylkill's biggest push came in the fourth inning, when the Lions erupted for six runs to take the lead. Key hits from Nicole Domermuth, Brent, and Mackenzie Carl highlighted the rally, while Nina Wilk added an RBI single and Keira Devor worked a bases-loaded walk.

Despite the offensive surge, Gwynedd Mercy responded in the fifth with six runs to regain the lead and held off the Lions late.

Game 2 — Penn State Schuylkill 9, Gwynedd Mercy 8

The Lions responded quickly in the second game, plating four runs in the first inning to set the tone.

Bodge doubled home Jade Weiss to start the scoring before Carl delivered an RBI single. A sacrifice fly from Wilk and a passed ball pushed the early advantage to 4–1.

Schuylkill added two more runs in the second when Bodge singled home Nicole Domermuth and Devor followed with an RBI double, extending the lead to 6–3.

Gwynedd Mercy chipped away throughout the middle innings, tying the game before Schuylkill answered in the sixth inning. Emily Brent delivered an RBI single, and sacrifice plays from Bodge and Carl brought in two more runs to give the Lions a 9–7 cushion.

Gwynedd Mercy added one in the seventh, but Bodge closed out the complete-game victory in the circle to secure the split.
