Weiss Records 100th Career Hit as Lions Split Myrtle Beach Doubleheader
Jade Weiss notched the 100th hit of her career as Penn State Schuylkill split a spring break doubleheader in Myrtle Beach.
Penn State Schuylkill opened the day with a 5–3 win over Mitchell in North Myrtle Beach behind timely hitting and a strong effort in the circle. The Lions struck first in the opening inning when Mackenzie Carl delivered an RBI single to score Weiss for the early 1–0 lead.
Mitchell answered with runs in the second and third innings to briefly take a 2–1 advantage, but Schuylkill responded in the third when Keira Devor lined an RBI single down the left-field line, scoring Aryanna Bodge to even the game.
After Mitchell regained the lead in the fifth inning, the Lions erupted for three runs in the bottom half to take control. Bodge sparked the rally with a two-run triple down the left-field line, scoring Weiss and Miranda Hess. Carl followed with her second RBI hit of the day, a single up the middle to score Bodge and extend the lead to 5–3.
Bodge was a key contributor at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Carl went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Weiss added two hits and two runs scored, including the milestone 100th hit of her collegiate career.
In the circle, Chloe Heckman earned the win, allowing two runs over three innings before Bodge closed the final four innings, striking out five to secure the victory.
In Game 2, Schuylkill ran into a strong pitching performance from the Bears, falling 9–0 in six innings. The Lions managed two hits in the contest, coming from Weiss and Bodge, but Bears pitcher Shelby Ulrich kept the offense off balance with eight strikeouts in the shutout.
The Bears built an early lead with two runs in the first inning and continued to add insurance runs throughout the game before a three-run triple in the sixth sealed the decision.
