Softball Caps Off a Remarkable Season with Top 4 Finish
Penn State Schuylkill's softball team concluded its season with a tough 9-1 loss to Carlow University in the USCAA Championship Tournament. Despite the outcome, Schuylkill's journey to the Final Four was marked by resilience, teamwork, and determination, securing them a spot among the nation's top four teams.
The game started off rough for Schuylkill as Carlow came out swinging, posting four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Megan Pollinger and an RBI single by Tatum Wiggs. Carlow added three more runs in the second, extending their lead to 7-0 before Schuylkill found their rhythm.
Mackenzie Carl delivered Schuylkill's only RBI of the game with a double to left field in the third inning, driving in Jade Weiss. Despite some solid defensive efforts and a few key hits, the Lions couldn't contain Carlow's offense, which tallied nine runs on nine hits.
Carlow sealed the victory with two more runs in the fourth, capitalizing on a double from Mackenzie Egley and a Schuylkill throwing error. Schuylkill was held scoreless through the final innings as Carlow's pitcher, Tatum Wiggs, went the distance, surrendering just four hits and striking out two.
