Penn State Schuylkill softball earned a 7–5 victory over Notre Dame (Md.) in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
After a slow first two innings for both teams, the Nittany Lions struck first in the top of the third when J. Weiss delivered an RBI single to score M. Marks. Notre Dame responded quickly, capitalizing on a Schuylkill error and an RBI single to take a 2–1 lead heading into the fourth.
But the Lions answered back with consistent scoring over the next four innings. A hit-by-pitch to M. Marks tied the game in the fourth, and another HBP drawn by E. Crisswell put Schuylkill ahead 3–2. T. Jones and M. Carl each added RBI singles in the fifth, followed by a clutch RBI single by C. McGoarty in the sixth and K. Walshaw's RBI hit in the seventh to give the Lions a 7–2 cushion.
Notre Dame made it interesting in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs to cut the deficit to 7–5, but E. Crisswell stayed composed in the circle and finished her complete game performance. She allowed nine hits and five earned runs while striking out six and walking none over 7.0 innings to secure the win.
Offensively, Schuylkill was led by Crisswell (2-for-3, RBI, double, run), Jones (1-for-2, 2 runs, RBI), and Carl (1-for-5, RBI). The team showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks and getting on base via four hit-by-pitches.

Penn State Schuylkill completed the sweep of Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday, outlasting the Gators in a high-scoring slugfest, 14–10, in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
The Nittany Lions came out swinging in the first inning, putting up four runs highlighted by K. Walshaw's RBI single and a 3-run double from K. Devor. Schuylkill erupted again in the third, scoring six runs on timely hitting and productive outs. J. Weiss drove in two with a single, M. Carl added an RBI knock, and both T. Jones and E. Walshaw picked up the win in the circle, going 4.2 innings and allowing 10 earned runs before M. Marks closed the door with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Offensively, Walshaw led the team going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Devor had a monster game, going 2-for-3 with a double, home run, four RBIs, and two walks. Weiss went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Carl, Crisswell, and McGroarty each added to the Lions' 16-hit onslaught.
With the sweep, Penn State Schuylkill shows strong promise at the plate heading into the rest of their spring schedule.
