The Penn State Schuylkill men's volleyball team showed resilience and determination Saturday at the Gallaudet University trimatch in Washington, D.C., competing with only six available players due to spring sport conflicts and a military assignment. Despite the limited roster, the Lions played with grit and teamwork throughout both matches.
Schuylkill opened the day against Saint Elizabeth in a match that mirrored the intensity of the teams' previous meeting. The Lions and Eagles traded sets throughout the contest in a tightly contested five-set battle. Schuylkill claimed the first set 25–22 and later forced a decisive fifth set with a 25–22 win in the fourth, but Saint Elizabeth ultimately secured the match 15–9 in the final set.
Offensively, the Lions were led by Jeremiah Miller, who recorded 18 kills and 14 digs, while Reno Plesnarski added 15 kills. Austin Fries contributed 10 kills and 5 service aces, helping keep the Lions competitive throughout the match. Kadre Williams anchored the offense with 41 assists, while also adding 6 service aces. Defensively, David Imeogu posted a team-high 17 digs, highlighting the team's defensive effort in the extended match.
In the second match of the day, the Lions faced host Gallaudet, falling in straight sets 25–16, 25–13, 25–17. Despite the result, Schuylkill continued to compete hard while playing every rotation without substitutions.
Plesnarski and Austin Fries led the offense again with 7 kills each, while Jeremiah Miller added 5 kills and 6 digs. Williams directed the offense with 16 assists, and the Lions again relied on strong defensive efforts, including 8 digs from David Imeogu.
Though short-handed, the Lions demonstrated toughness and unity throughout the day, competing point-for-point against Saint Elizabeth and continuing to fight through the final match against Gallaudet. The performance reflected the team's commitment to each other and their ability to battle through adversity as the season continues.
