Penn State Schuylkill men's volleyball competed in a challenging tri-match at Eastern University on Saturday, battling Valley Forge in a five-set thriller before taking on host Eastern in the afternoon.
The Lions opened the day with a tightly contested matchup against Valley Forge, ultimately falling in five sets, 3-2 (25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-17). Schuylkill showed grit throughout the match, capturing the first and third sets and forcing a decisive fifth after a late push in the fourth.
Reno Plesnarski paced the offense with an outstanding performance, recording 23 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Jeremiah Miller added 14 kills and 12 digs for a double-double, while Austin Fries delivered a strong all-around effort with 12 kills, six service aces, and five blocks. Kadre Williams orchestrated the offense with 48 assists and three aces as the Lions totaled 59 kills and 11 aces in the match. Despite holding momentum late, Valley Forge edged out the final set to secure the win.
Schuylkill returned to the court to face Eastern University, dropping the match in straight sets, 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 12-25). The Lions battled early in each set but were unable to slow Eastern's efficient attack, which hit nearly .400 for the match. Plesnarski again led the way with seven kills, while Fries added five and Bryce Hensley contributed four kills and a block. Williams dished out 16 assists, and Ashton Owens led the defensive effort with four digs.
Despite the results, the tri-match provided valuable experience for the Lions as they continue to develop chemistry and momentum early in the season.
