Lions Push PSUAC Leader to the Brink in 94–89 Thriller
Schuylkill trades punches all night and nearly knocks off unbeaten York at home.
In one of their strongest performances of the season, Penn State Schuylkill went toe-to-toe with PSUAC frontrunner Penn State York before falling just short, 94–89, in a high-energy conference battle Thursday night.
The Lions showed from the opening tip they were ready to compete, matching York score-for-score in a fast-paced first half. Schuylkill shot confidently and attacked the paint, trailing just 50–48 at the break against a York team that came in unbeaten in conference play.
Amir Gray led the charge with 23 points, including three triples, while Issac Lane poured in 21 points and battled inside for five rebounds. The Lions had four players in double figures, as Bryce Hensley added 11 points off the bench and both Hadir Boswell and Dekari Harrell chipped in 10 apiece. Boswell also controlled the glass with seven rebounds in a strong all-around effort.
Schuylkill kept the pressure on throughout the second half, using key steals and second-chance opportunities to stay within striking distance. A late push tied the game at 89–89 in the final minute after a three-point play from Lane, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. York, however, answered with a clutch bucket from Quentin Wells and late free throws to seal the narrow win.
Despite the loss, the Lions showed grit, depth, and offensive balance, shooting 47 percent from the field and forcing 15 York turnovers in one of their most complete efforts against top competition this season.
Penn State Schuylkill will look to carry that momentum into Saturday's road matchup at Penn State Scranton, with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m. in another key PSUAC contest.
