Lions Complete Weekend Sweep With Win Over Greater Allegheny
Schuylkill hit 40.9% from three and held Greater Allegheny to 3-of-9 at the line.
Penn State Schuylkill capped an exciting alumni day and a strong PSUAC weekend with a 64–58 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday afternoon, improving to 3–2 in conference play.
The Lions came out sharp from the opening possessions, with Lee Newton scoring the first bucket off an offensive rebound just seconds into the game. Schuylkill's activity on the glass set the tone early—Hadir Boswell grabbed multiple offensive rebounds in the first few minutes, creating extra chances as the Lions built momentum. After Greater Allegheny briefly grabbed a one-point lead, Schuylkill responded with timely perimeter shooting: Boswell buried a three and Devin Adams Jr. knocked down two triples in the first half, helping the Lions push the lead back in their favor.
Midway through the half, Schuylkill's defense created offense. The Lions forced turnovers and turned them into points, including a steal by Boswell that helped spark another run. Amir Gray hit a three late in the first half and followed it with a steal and a fast-break layup in the final minutes as Schuylkill closed the half strong and took a 34–24 advantage into the locker room.
Greater Allegheny made its push in the second half, but Schuylkill answered with poise. Trey Gould provided a big lift off the bench, knocking down two threes in the final 12 minutes, including one that pushed the lead back to double digits. The Lions also got key interior stops—Bryce Hensley and Newton each recorded important blocks, and Schuylkill's defensive work helped limit Greater Allegheny at the free-throw line (3-of-9). Down the stretch, the Lions protected the lead at the stripe, with Gray sealing it by going 4-for-4 at the line, including two free throws in the final seconds.
Gray led Schuylkill with 18 points, while Adams Jr. added 17 points and Boswell chipped in 8 points and 2 steals. Hensley gave strong minutes off the bench with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks, and Gould finished with 6 points on 2-for-3 shooting from deep.
Greater Allegheny was led by DeJuan Lewis (18 points) and Elijah Hannon (16 points, 13 rebounds), but Schuylkill's timely shooting and defensive execution in key moments proved to be the difference.
The win wrapped up a special day on campus that began with the first-ever Penn State Schuylkill Alumni Basketball Game, bringing back more than 20 former players to reconnect, share a luncheon, and then support the current Lions in their win.
