Lions’ Late Push Comes Up Short in 97–90 Shootout with DuBois
Five Lions scored in double figures, but DuBois’ three-point shooting spoiled a high-scoring night in Schuylkill Haven.
Penn State Schuylkill men's basketball traded punches with Penn State Du Bois in a fast-paced, offensive showdown on Friday night, but a hot shooting display by the visitors proved too much in a 97–90 setback at home. Du Bois shot 52.2% from the field and drilled 13 three-pointers, using timely threes and late free throws to hold off multiple Schuylkill runs in both halves.
Schuylkill's offense answered all evening, putting four players in double figures and generating 36 points off 23 Du Bois turnovers with aggressive on-ball pressure. Amir Gray finished with 18 points and 2 assists, while Issac Lane turned in a strong all-around performance with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Off the bench, Bryce Hensley provided a spark with 12 points and 6 boards, and Devin Adams Jr. added 12 points, including a pair of threes. Hadir Boswell nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Dekari Harrell chipped in 10 points as Schuylkill stayed within striking distance until the final minute.
On the other side, Du Bois was led by a huge night from Nate Cornelius, who poured in 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc, while Ashton Fortson (23 points, 13 rebounds) and Malachi Schaefer (22 points on 7-of-8 shooting) powered a balanced attack on the glass and in transition.
Penn State Schuylkill now turns the page to another tough PSUAC matchup tomorrow at Penn State Mont Alto followed by a nonconference test, traveling to Shenandoah University on Monday before returning home after the holiday stretch.
