Penn State Schuylkill cross country turned in a solid showing at Stockton University's Osprey Open on September 20, with both the men's and women's squads placing inside the top 15 against a deep NCAA Division III field.
On the men's side, the Lions finished 14th overall with a combined time of 2:52:17 and a team average of 34:27 per runner. Matthew O. paced the group in 31:15, followed by Ashton Owens (32:00), Francisco Ortiz (33:16), Gabriel Karnes (33:37), and Shane Smith (42:08). Justin Garrido added depth with a 45:00 finish as the team gained valuable experience against strong regional competition.
The women's squad captured 13th place, clocking a total team time of 2:46:15 and a 33:15 average for the 6k course. Lilley Anderson led the way in 26:41, while Addison Zimmerman posted 30:45. Abigail Smithnosky followed in 33:34, with JiaYi Gong (34:34) and Hanna Bulles (40:39) rounding out the scoring five.
Facing some of the region's top programs, both Schuylkill teams showcased consistency and determination, setting a competitive tone as they head into the heart of the fall schedule.
