Meet the Coach: Jeremy Mummey, Head Men's Volleyball and Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach
A lifelong volleyball enthusiast, Jeremy Mummey brings experience, passion, and a team-first mindset to Penn State Schuylkill Athletics.
For Jeremy Mummey, volleyball has been a lifelong passion. Entering his first year at Penn State Schuylkill as Head Coach of the Men's Volleyball team and Assistant Coach for the Women's Volleyball team, Mummey brings decades of experience as both a player and coach and is eager to help continue building a strong volleyball culture at Schuylkill.
Mummey's journey in the sport began during his college years and grew through his love of beach volleyball. Over the past 36 years, he has remained deeply involved in the game, playing recreational volleyball for 15 to 20 years, competing in beach volleyball for five years, and coaching high school volleyball for three seasons.
"My love of the game and Head Women's Volleyball Coach Noel Kaufman inspired me to take on this role," Mummey said.
As he begins his first season with the Wolves, Mummey is focused on creating a competitive environment built on strong values.
"My goal is to build a program centered on accountability, competitiveness, growth, and team culture," he said.
When evaluating players, Mummey looks beyond athletic ability. He values student-athletes who demonstrate communication, leadership, accountability, work ethic, respect, and a positive attitude—qualities he believes are essential for success both on and off the court.
Some of Mummey's favorite volleyball memories come from both coaching and playing. As a coach, he remembers watching his high school team celebrate its first match victory in six years. As a player, one of his proudest moments was winning a beach volleyball championship alongside his daughter.
His advice for current and future student-athletes is simple but impactful. "Confidence comes from preparation," Mummey said.
As he begins his coaching journey at Penn State Schuylkill, Mummey is excited to contribute to the continued growth of Wolves Volleyball and help student-athletes develop both as competitors and as individuals.
Fun fact: Mummey can play the guitar.
