National Siblings Day: Baseball, brotherhood, and a bond that goes way beyond the field
At Penn State Schuylkill, Sean, Chris, and Patrick Duffy have grown up playing together and supporting each other every step of the way. This National Siblings Day, we’re celebrating their connection as teammates, students, and family.
At Penn State Schuylkill, some of the strongest teams are built on more than just talent. For Sean, Chris, and Patrick Duffy, baseball has always been a family thing. This National Siblings Day, we're highlighting their journey as brothers, teammates, and close-knit friends who have shared the field, campus, and countless memories together.
Patrick Duffy
Major: Computer Engineering
Graduation Year: 2027
Position: Outfield
As the youngest of the three, Patrick says his brothers have always been there for him. From showing up to games to offering advice when he needed it, he always felt supported.
"They always had my back," Patrick said. "They showed up, and gave advice."
He looked up to Sean and Chris growing up and learned a lot just by watching them. Being in college with them has been one of the coolest parts of his experience so far. From late-night food runs to random campus moments and nonstop laughs, it's those little memories that mean the most.
When it comes to staying close as a family, Patrick gives credit to their parents. "Quick calls, random check-ins, always keeping us connected," he said.
And for his brothers, he keeps it simple: "Appreciate you both. Thanks for being solid through everything."
Chris Duffy
Major: Corporate Communications
Graduation Year: 2025
Position: 2B, SS, 3B
Chris says the bond between the brothers was built early on through baseball. They've been practicing and playing together for most of their lives, which helped them grow not only as athletes but as friends.
"For Sean, it's more that he motivated me to work hard outside of practices," Chris said. "He got me into the gym a lot more, so I'm happy about that."
Patrick might be the quiet one, but even then, Chris has learned something meaningful from him too. "Pat barely talks, so he doesn't give many lessons," he said, smiling. "But by his actions, he's taught me not to let things I can't control get to me, especially on the field."
During stressful times or big games, their way of showing support might not be what you'd expect.
"We just mess with each other," Chris said. "That's honestly what we do. It's surprisingly helpful."
The nicknames have also become part of the Duffy legacy. "Sean is the OG Duffy, so he's always been Duff," Chris explained. "Then I came along and took on the name Lil Duff. Sean was sometimes called Big Duff after I got here. Then Patrick came, and we couldn't really get smaller than Lil Duff, so we just mixed his name into Puff. It stuck."
Chris's National Siblings Day shoutout? "To Sean, good luck in the police academy. To Pat, good luck at Main Campus next year."
Sean Duffy
Major: Criminal Justice
Graduation Year: 2024
Position: P, 1B, SS, 3B
As the oldest, Sean helped set the tone for his younger brothers. Whether it was through playing hard, pushing them in the gym, or just being there for them on and off the field, he played a big role in shaping their paths. Even though he's quieter and more laid back, his presence has always been felt.
From long practices to late-night jokes, the Duffy brothers have always had each other's backs. Through every game, every class, and every laugh, they've built something stronger than just sibling bonds. They've built a legacy.
Happy National Siblings Day to Sean, Chris, and Patrick — three brothers, one team, and a whole lot of Duff.
