Lady Lions open up PSUAC play with victory over PSU Wilkes Barre, 50-45.
Schuylkill improves record to 2-1 with dramatic victory in PSUAC opener.
In the PSUAC opener, Schuylkill faced PSU Wilkes Barre in a tough back and forth battle. During the first half, neither team was able to separate themselves from each other as they battled through 6 ties and 8 lead changes to enter the locker room tied at 21-21.
The second half saw PSU Wilkes Barre build an 8 point lead with 6:40 remaining in the game, 43-35. Schuylkill quickly cut the deficit with 5 points on a 3 point field goal by Laneesha Harrison (Senior/Bartrum Business) and two free throws from Bree Green (Soph/Cardinal Dougherty). Over the next two minutes, Wilkes Barre would tack on a layup and Schuylkill would add a free throw from Keisha Robinson (Junior/ Girl's High Phila.) and a basket from Shannon Kenney (Freshman/Lourdes) cutting the lead down to two, 43-45. A turnover by Wilkes Barre led to a Schuylkill possession with :57 seconds remaining. Wilkes Barre applied full court pressure, which was met by a long pass from Green, hitting Robinson in stride for the game tying layup. Tied at 45-45, with 27 seconds left, Robinson stole the ball and finished on the break to give Schuylkill the lead, 47-45. Schuylkill would ice the game on the foul line down the stretch to take the conference opener 50-45.
